Wrap hot-water pipes – especially those within three feet of your water heater.  Use polyethylene or neoprene foam insulation eases heat loss and raises water temperature 2 to 4 degrees so you can turn down the heater (for each 10 degrees F reduction you save 3 to 5% in energy costs).  Place sleeve seams face-down and secure them every foot or so with acrylic tape, wire or cable ties.
