Painting Your House? Try Painting it “Green”

Our allies Down-under have been putting green practices to work and this blog will highlight some of their endevers in making properties green.

The color you paint your home could affect you energy consumption.  Light colors increase the “albedo,” or reflecting power of a surface.  If you paint your roof white it increases the solar energy reflected away from the surface.  Imagine the hillsides of Greece with their beautiful white washed buildings.

It’s also possible to buy dark-coloured paints that cut the heat absorbed by your roof. Ceramic-based, heat-reflective coatings are available from paint suppliers.
