San Diego County officials flipped the switch on a 1-megawatt solar power system Monday at the East Mesa Detention Facility in Otay Mesa.
The installation, described as the largest on county property, could save upward of $1.3 million in energy costs over the next two decades.
The complex houses the George Bailey Detention Center and the East Mesa Juvenile Detention Center.
