This holiday season, go with LED lights – Traditional bulbs are 25 watts per 50-bulb strand is standard, and when they are hooked-up, 10 of those amount to 250 watts running around the clock. LED christmas lights use 80 to 90 percent less electricity than traditional bulbs and also generate less heat, significantly cutting the risk of igniting a dry tree. Also some exterior lights are solar-powered.
