Plan and prep

Now is the ideal time to sow, either by seed or seedling cool weather vegetables.

Follow the basic vegetable garden golden rules: 1) plant what you and your family like, 2) plant in full sun in north-to-south rows, 3) plant tallest plants in the north, 4) start with well-amended soil using plenty of compost, 5) provide adequate water, 6) provide protection for your garden from hungry wildlife, 7) start small and expand your garden as your time and skill allows, and 8) know when to harvest.
