Fundraiser – October 22, 3-9 p.m. for Celebrate Seeds @ City Urban Farm

Wild Willow Farm & Education Center is pleased to host a fundraiser for Seeds @ City Urban Farm, a 1-acre urban teaching farm located on the campus of San Diego City College. This inspiring event will bring together food lovers, supporters of farmers’ markets, friends of the farm, faculty, students, and staff of San Diego City College and their families, and you! The event will feature music, food (including wood-fired pizza), farm tours, and raffles for prizes donated from organic food suppliers, restaurants and other interested parties throughout the San Diego area.

The fundraiser is meant to support and expand course offerings at City College in sustainable urban agriculture as well as maintain an apprenticeship program, which trains young farmers in the Seeds @ City Urban Farm outdoor classroom. Since its inception in 2008, Seeds @ City Urban Farm has offered apprenticeships three times yearly, and the student demand has consistently been beyond the program’s current capacity.

Solar Customers Furious With Utility Over Proposed Rate Change

Homeowners who sank thousands of dollars into solar power systems are hopping mad at San Diego Gas & Electric Co.’s proposal to charge them for using the electrical grid.

On Monday, SDG&E filed a request to the California Public Utilities Commission that would allow it to separate how much it charges customers for electricity from how much it charges to transport that electricity. For traditional customers, the change would have little impact on their total bill. But solar customers would end up paying an average of $11 extra per month, according to utility spokeswoman Stephanie Donovan.

Who was Frank Lloyd Wright?

Frank Lloyd Wright (born Frank Lincoln Wright, June 8, 1867 – April 9, 1959) was an American architect, interior designer, writer and educator, who designed more than 1,000 projects, which resulted in more than 500 completed works. Wright promoted organic architecture (exemplified by Fallingwater), was a leader of the Prairie School movement of architecture (exemplified by the Robie House, the Westcott House, and the Darwin D. Martin House), and developed the concept of the Usonian home (exemplified by the Rosenbaum House). His work includes original and innovative examples of many different building types, including offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels, and museums. Wright also often designed many of the interior elements of his buildings, such as the furniture and stained glass.
