Kitchen Remodel Costs: 3 Budgets, 3 Kitchen

Seems that whenever I meet a potential new client, the first question is, “How much will this project cost?” I then try to explain that this is like asking, “How long is a piece of string?”

Wondering if the cost transfers to value?  Contact the appraisers at www.scappraisals.com for your value questions.

You see, there are just too many things that will influence a project’s cost. From basic construction issues, such as repairing what may need repairs, to client selections for cabinets, appliances and everything else, to whether or not we plan on moving things around or adding space, there are so many variables that come into play.

Let’s take a look at three kitchens, all remodels. The first we’ll call basic, but it’s anything but. The second is a little more upscale, and the third is high style. If these were cars, they’d be economy, full-size and luxury.

A swimming pool can be the crown jewel of your property, capable of turning a bland yard into an outdoor oasis.

Contact the appraisers at www.scappraisals.com for your questions regarding value added to home? when you have a pool.  Don’t forget to consider your electric and water bills.

But before you take the plunge, it’s best to weigh the pros and cons of various pools. Here are some things to consider:

Categories. Above-ground and in-ground are the two main types of pools. Above-ground units are less expensive, less permanent and come in a choice of sidings (resin, aluminum, steel). There are also inflatable varieties. These are typically do-it-yourself projects.

In-ground pools — more costly, larger and permanent — come in four basic types: vinyl liner (a liner is attached to a frame built in the excavation), aluminum (a cheaper material but not as sturdy), fiberglass (a large factory-built shell is lowered into an excavation by a crane) and concrete or gunite (constructed on-site to your specs and available in a variety of finishes). For these, professional installation is the norm.

Beware of Value-Killing Home Renovations

That old adage should be a warning for homeowners. What you do to a home — in terms of renovations, furnishings and additions — is all well and good while you sleep under its roof. But if you plan to sell, your efforts could diminish rather than boost its selling price.

Contact the appraisers at www.scappraisals.com for your value questions.   Remember appraisers determine value and real estate agents sell homes.

A miniature backyard skate park, indoor basketball court or basement lounge complete with a stripper pole and smoke machine are the sorts of extravagances that may not directly push down your home value, but could nevertheless drive away prospective buyers or provide room for them to haggle down the price.
