Mount a programmable thermostat – By using its pre-programmed settings properly (a minimum 10-degree setback, for eight hours daily, when you’re asleep or away from hom), you’ll save 10% ($180) on heating and cooling costs. “For every degree it’s set back during that eight-hour block, you save one percent” says Bruce Harley, a Massachusetts based engineer.
